Free Audio Books Explained
An audio book is a recording of the text of a book being read. The audio book is not automatically the exact audio version of a specific book or magazine, in fact there are a lot of authors of actual books who create revised versions on the audio books. Spoken audio or audio books have always been already available in school and in public libraries and even in music shops for the longest time.
A few decades back, recordings of spoken audio was only available in school and the public libraries and these audio recordings were just personal efforts specific groups to make their written works available to those who have problems. Examples of these people are those suffering from epilepsy and similar debilitating illnesses and those who are visually impaired. The audio books were originally produced not for commercial purposes. When 1980 came, book publishers somehow arrived on the idea that there could be an open market for spoken word publishing. From then on came massive efforts to produce many audio books and they become as available as books in certain areas.
As of late, the audio books industry is worth two billion dollars and it keeps on expanding every year. The internet is making this industry more powerful and it is growing by leaps and bounds. In fact, there are a number of audio book launchings that are done simultaneously with the actual book release. However, there are still free audio books available online and you can find them almost everywhere. They even come in unabridged and abridged versions, the former pertaining to audio books that were done on a word per word basis while the latter are about audio books where the recordings are based on the reading of edited copies of the actual books and these were done by people called abridgers.
There are times when books are recorded in dramatized form which comes as more exciting than when it is juts plainly read in text form and can really stir up someone’s imagination. These are recorded complete with sound effects, with complete cast and musical accompaniment. There is even a specific award giving body for this genre and it is called the Audie Awards.
Free audio books come in different forms like compact discs, cassette tapes, and other downloadable digital formats such as Windows Media Audio, Advanced Audio Coding, etcetera.
